Project Delivery

Air Pollution Control

Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC)

Situation

Rio Tinto have identified dust mitigation as a key focus to minimise safety risks and reduce environmental impacts of their mine operations.

At the Yandicoogina (Yandi) mine site in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, excessive dust was occurring at the tertiary crusher screening building.

Solution

Aerison were engaged as the primary engineer, procurement and construction contractor to deliver the civil, structural,
mechanical, piping, electrical, instrumentation and commissioning works.

Scope:

  • A two-cell baghouse,
  • Clean air and dirty air duct systems
  • Compressed air supply systems
  • Access platforms, duct support structures and complete dust agglomeration and conveyor disposal systems.

Project Highlights:

  • Audit and inspection of existing facilities to gain a complete
  • understanding of client outcomes, enabling an efficient and
  • effective design solution
  • Aerison’s construction methodology directed fabrication and
pre-assembly of over-sized structural modules inclusive of
    all possible equipment and dressings
  • Unique in-house delivery model provided a ‘turnkey’
package to Rio Tinto limiting interface challenges

Outcome

  • Site-based construction time was less than half the duration expected through conventional methods.
  • Dust mitigation in the vicinity is significantly improved reducing respiratory and optometry risks
  • Facility performance meets environmental requirements
  • Improved production efficiency by recovering fines product and reducing material loss
