Situation

The Coarse Ore Screening Bins were constructed in 2009 as part of the Boddington Gold Mine expansion project and have been in full services since this date.

Variation in bin levels had resulted in wear on the unlined sections of the bins.

To combat this, NBG implemented a replacement schedule to upgrade the wall sections.

Solution

Aerison were engaged as the primary contractor to deliver the engineering and design, structural, mechanical, electrical, fabrication, installation, and commissioning works.

The scope included:

  • Fabrication, transportation, and erection of the 8 off Coarse Ore Screening Bin walls to be replaced as part of scheduled shutdown maintenance.

Outcome

  • Aerison carried out the replacement of 8 off coarse-ore bin walls and associated walkways, handrail and supporting structural beams.
  • The project was highly complex and involved working at heights with complex sequencing of deconstruction and re-installation of steel works.
  • The project was delivered with activities including engineering, fabrication, installation, site hot works and surface treatment completed in and out of site shutdowns over the course of multiple shutdown periods.
  • Aerison completed the works utilising inhouse engineering, fabrication, and installation. Subcontracted packages included: rope access and surface treatment.
  • The project was delivered safely and incident free.
