Situation

The client has seven similar sized baghouses currently operating on the Cape Lambert site but required an additional 3 units to manage the dust emitted from the screenhouse and car
dumpers.

The client was concerned about having to manage stocks of spares and maintenance requirements for different technology units to the existing baghouses.

Solution

Aerison was engaged as the primary contractor to deliver the engineering and design, electrical, structural, mechanical,
fabrication and commissioning works.

The scope included:

  • Design, supply, manufacture, and commission three (3) Reverse Pulse Baghouse Dust Collection systems for Car Dumper CD6C, Car Dumper CD7C and Screenhouse SH6.
  • Baghouse dust collection system included clean air ducting, silencers, discharge stacks and fans.
  • Design, supply, and manufacture of dust disposal system. Works included per system, bypass chute, rotary valves, agglomeration unit and air slide conveyors.

Project highlights:

  • Car Dumper DC6 & DC7 capacity: 334,800m³h.
  • Screenhouse SH6 capacity: 115,200 m³h.
  • Car Dumpers provided with dual drive exhaust fans, driven by 2 x 315kW motors.

Outcome

  • Car Dumpers specifically engineered to fit existing onsite structure.
  • Facility performance meets environment requirements.
  • Dust mitigation in the vicinity was significantly improved reducing respiratory and optometry risks.
  • Reduction in number of spare parts required to be carried by Rio Tinto.
  • Baghouse design was made in such a way to fit the existing brownfield footprint size on all three units, thus ensuring
no major re-design of the steelwork was required.
